Company Overview

North East Transmission Company Ltd. (NETC) – a joint venture of Power Grid Corporation of India Ltd. (POWERGRID), ONGC Tripura Power Company Ltd., (OTPC), Assam Electricity Grid Corporation Ltd. (AEGCL) and Govts of Tripura, Mizoram, Manipur, Meghalaya & Nagaland was incorporated on 26th August 2008 as per the provision of Companies Act 1956 with an objective to develop transmission line to evacuate power in the North East Region. Since its commissioning NETC Line is playing a crucial role in meeting the power demand of the North Eastern Region (NER). This transmission system is the backbone of NER's power system and consistently providing almost 100% reliability since its commissioning, despite the ageing of assets over time.

It is important to mention that the 400 kV Palatana-Bongaigaon transmission line is traversing through the States of Tripura, Meghalaya and Assam connecting the substations at Silchar, Azara, Byrnihat and Bongaigaon. Out of the total 1326.67 Ckt. kms of the line, 47% is traversing through the Hilly Terrain and total 20% through the Reserve Forest area. The transmission line also crosses major rivers viz. Brahmaputra, Barak and Champabati, where 03 nos. Towers have been erected over pile foundation and 02 numbers are on well foundation in the mid-stream of Brahmaputra River.
